Freeman, Ed - Our President during 2002-2004 - Ed sent this note on 2006-12-11

I was sorry to hear about Lon. He was a devoted member and supporter of the club. Hope someone picks up his efforts for free and share ware.

I live in Payson AZ. Moved here from Sun City two and about a half years ago. I am President of the Payson Computer Club. Vastly different than Sun City. We meet once a month in the evening at the local library. Large attendence is 25-28. Generally we have about 16 members who show up faithfully. Miss all the great people at CCMV. Give them my regards.

The following announcement appeared in our July, 2005 newsletter:

Saying Goodbye to a Friend

It is with great sadness that I share the news that our good friend Lon Whistler passed away on June 15, 2005. Lon has been a dedicated and giving member of CCMV for as long as I've been here, and for many years before. He spent countless hours donating his time and efforts to finding shareware and freeware programs. Some important tools, others that were just plain fun, and always took time to write about them for our monthly newsletter. Lon helped to raise funds for our Club by putting these programs on floppy disks & CDs and manning our shareware/freeware table at every meeting. Lon always took the time to share what he learned with anyone that asked, never made people feel uncomfortable for not knowing and made everyone feel welcome at our meetings.

His daughter Michelle wrote...

“I am sorry to have to relay this news to you but Lon passed away last Thursday morning. I know he enjoyed the computer club very much, it was an important part of his life.

My Father did not wish to have any services, If you could just let the other members of the computer club know that would be appreciated.”

If you would care to send thoughts or kind words to Lon's family, you can send an email to Lon's email address (lwhis7d@verizon.net), his daughter Michelle will get it and I'm sure pass it along to her mom Pricilla.

Lon was a wonderful and caring member of CCMV, and will be greatly missed.
